There is a growing need for motivational interviewing (MI) techniques in medical family therapy (MedFT) settings to address lifestyle behavior changes such as smoking cessation, obesity prevention, and diabetes management. Although MI is an evidence-based practice for lifestyle behavior change, most MedFTs are not trained in it. This seminar will introduce MI theory, clinical applications, and training techniques for supervisors.
