SFTC24: Supporting Trans and Non-Binary Clients
CE: 2.00
Speaker: Sar Surmick MA, LMFT
Trans, Non-Binary, and Gender Expansive folks currently make up around 20% of the US population under the age of 22. What used to be a specialty is showing up in therapy rooms across the US. These clients have a right to quality and affirming care. They also have reasonable expectations about our knowledge & awareness, and yet few of us were ever taught how to work with them.
In Part 2 we’ll look at working with these populations in the therapy room: what to expect, what to watch for, and what to explore. We’ll discuss what gender dysphoria is, how it shows up, and how it interacts with other mental health issues. We look at some identity skills you can use. And we’ll answer your questions about working with these growing and vulnerable populations.
This workshop will use lecture, discussion, and exercises to explore how to work with Trans, Non-Binary, and Gender Expansive clients.
