SFTC24: The Unintentional Ally
CE: 1.00
Speakers: Silvia M. Kaminsky LMFT and Amanda Veldorale-Griffin, PhD
People often come to LGBTQIA+ allyship through their personal life experiences and may not know how to fully embrace that identity or use their desire to support their own friends and family to engage in broader allyship with the LGBTQIA+ community. The presenters will share their lived experiences as people who grew up in families with trans and queer relatives and how those early life experiences shaped their connections to the LGBTQIA+ community, informed their views on sexual and gender fluidity, and set them up for allyship and advocacy. They will also discuss how therapists can help facilitate the ally mentality in family systems and help people embrace greater intentionality in their allyship.
