SFTC24: The Invisible Minority: Antisemitism and Its Effects on Jewish Clients, Therapists, and Supervisees
CE: 1.00
Speakers: Shirley Shani Ben Zvi CT, PhD Candidate, AMFT, Amanda Veldorale-Griffin, PhD, Aurélia Bickler, PhD, LMFT
The Jewish minority has been the recipient of a disproportionate number of hate crimes, considering it constitutes only 2% of the population in the USA, but is the target of about 60% of religiously based hate crimes. According to the Anti-Defamation League, these incidents increased by 360% since October of 2023. Despite this, the Jewish minority is rarely part of the conversation when we talk about minorities, DEI efforts, or cultural sensitivity, and their lived experiences and challenges are often overlooked in clinical training and supervision discussions. This panel will discuss what it means for clients, therapists, and supervisees to be a part of an invisible minority, breaking the silence around antisemitism and making the covert overt. Panelists will discuss their own experiences within the therapeutic settings and beyond as part of the Jewish community and answer questions on the topic.
