  • Networking Luncheon- Cross Cultural Competency: An Ethical Must in Psychotherapy (Friday, September 4; 12:30 – 2:00 p.m.): $38

    Culture controls our lives and defines our realities without our intentional awareness. Even though mental health problems are similar across cultures, the complex classification of the appropriate helping responses across cultures has created the ethical necessity for cross-cultural competencies. This presentation, hosted by Manijeh Daneshpour, PhD, examines the ethical issues related to culture-centered psychotherapy and will highlight the AAMFT Minority Fellowship Programs contribution to this important endeavor. Earn 1.5 hours of continuing education for attending.
  • AAMFT Showcase – A Spotlight on Divisions and COAMFTE Accredited Programs (Friday, September 16; 7:00 – 8:00 p.m.): FREE

    Meet with division leaders to discuss the latest news and information regarding your home state or province, and find out how you can get more involved.     What would a weekend in Austin be if we didn’t get a little weird? The “live music capitol of the world,” home of the Texas Longhorns, and indie lifestyles mixed with classic Texas culture are just a few elements that lend to our host city’s eccentric vibe. Join us for a laid-back night of fun, food, and karaoke as we celebrate the spirit of Austin! Embody this in your outfit—dress like a cowpoke, the musician you’ve always dreamed of becoming, the ultimate football fan, and everything in between for our annual costume contest!   • Minority Fellowship Program (MFP) Social Hour (Saturday, September 5; 1:00 – 2:00 p.m.): FREE

    This event will bring together Minority Fellowship Program (MFP) Fellows from across the country along with mentors, advisory committee members, and program directors. The MFP seeks to increase the level of culturally competent doctoral level marriage and family therapists who provide mental health and substance abuse services to undeserved and minority populations.   • Annual Business Meeting (Saturday, September 5; 10:45 a.m – 12:15 p.m.): FREE; AAMFT membership only

    Because AAMFT is YOUR organization, we invite members to attend the 2015 Annual Business Meeting and dialogue with the Association’s leadership. We’ll discuss the accomplishments of 2014, future changes and their impact on you, financial benchmarks, and Association news. Freely ask questions and express concerns related to business planning as we continue to focus on relevancy, innovation, and communication. Last year’s meeting was dynamic and engaging to members of all levels, as everyone is welcome to contribute to the discussions relating to business planning.   • Foundation Reception:  (Saturday, September 5; 12:30 – 1:30 p.m.): $50

    Join the AAMFT Research & Education Foundation as it hosts Nelba Márquez Greene. Ms. Márquez-Greene lost her 6-year old daughter, Ana, in the violent school shooting that rocked America on December 14, 2012. Meet Ms. Márquez-Greene during the reception and network with others to help increase understanding and awareness to prevent violence and promote healing. The proceeds benefit the AAMFT Research and Education Foundation in producing relevant research to prevent future tragedies.
