Dr. Jaclyn D. Cravens has been researching and publishing for several years on marriage and family therapy. She is an assistant professor at Texas Tech University in the Community, Family and Addiction Sciences Department and currently serves as the Program Director of the Addictive Disorders and Recovery Studies (ADRS) program. The focus of her research is technology and couple relationships, with a specific focus on Facebook and social networking sites. Through research Dr. Cravens aims to help ensure empirical studies are conducted to keep the mental health field informed of the multiple ways technology impacts the clients we serve. Other research areas of interest: social justice, medical family therapy, intimate partner violence, and qualitative methodology. She has been sharing research on technology’s impact on couples and families at state and national conferences with positive results for several years.

Asian Academy of Family Therapy 4th Annual Conference

The Asian Academy of Family Therapy (AAFT) 4th Annual Conference, co-organized by AAFT and the Japan Association of Family Therapy will take place in Tsukuba, Japan, from November 1-4, 2017.

The theme of the Conference is “Family Therapy: East and West.” Systemic-based Family Therapy theory and practice originated mainly from the Western culture in the past 40 years. Family therapists in Asian region had worked hard to implement them in their local contexts, in spite of the traditional healing systems that exist within the culture.

The conference will offer presentations from various cultural contexts. Participants are encouraged to take part in discussions and join the dialogue between the East and the West as well as how family therapy theory and practice can be integrated across the cultures.
